When I was growing up in New York, the street on the lower east side where the Angels lived had a reputation of being one of the safest streets in the neighborhood. Things like this were important to know because safety in New York varied from street to street (even in the neighborhood where I grew up on the upper east side).
One of the best nights of my life was going on a party boat around Manhatten. You paid a modest fee for a concert ticket. It was quite a show. The music was piped throughout the boat and I never saw the players (Bo Didley & Jerry Garcia). It was hosted by the Hells Angels. They pretty much had the front of the boat and everyone else was welcome to come and go as they pleased.
